How Does the Oregon Payroll Calculator Work?

The portion of your wages that your employer withholds for federal income taxes is based on a number of factors, including your marital status, salary, and the number of dependents you claim.

Your employer will also withhold Social Security Tax and Medicare taxes from each of your paychecks in addition to federal income taxes. Together, these two taxes make up the so-called FICA taxes. So the Social Security tax is taken out at a rate of 6.2%, while the Medicare tax is also withheld at a rate of 1.45% of your earnings.
