How Does the Ohio Paycheck Tax Calculator Work?

Calculating your salary can be a challenging task, especially without the assistance of a paycheck calculator. This is primarily because your employer deducts various taxes from your pay. The complexity of these calculations increases even further in states like Ohio, where state and local income taxes are imposed in addition to federal tax withholding.

To begin with, regardless of the state you reside in, your employer withholds 6.2% of your earnings for Social Security taxes and 1.45% for Medicare taxes. Additionally, your employer matches your contributions towards these taxes. Collectively, these taxes are known as FICA taxes and are likely to be listed as such on your pay stubs.

If you are a single filer, head of household, or qualifying widow(er), any earnings exceeding $200,000 are subject to an additional 0.9% Medicare tax. For married couples filing jointly, this tax applies to earnings surpassing $250,000, while for those filing separately, it applies to wages above $125,000. It is important to note that your employer does not match your payment of this surtax.

Important Note: The StubCreator provides a paycheck calculator designed to provide essential guidance. This should not be relied upon to calculate exact taxes, payroll, or other financial data. You should seek a professional accountant regarding any particular requirement.

Before creating a pay stub, you may also review a paystub template to preview how earnings, taxes, and deductions will be structured on the final document.
